More than 40 years of popular creation theater

Born in the vibrant social movement and the wave of protest of the 70s, the troupe quickly made its mark through its desire to escape the institutionalized field of repertory theater. Since its founding in May 1973 by graduates of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec et de Montréal, Théâtre Parminou’s mission has been to create and tour. Because we believed in regionalization and we were seduced by the decentralization policies that prevailed at that time, we settled in 1976 in Victoriaville to reach out to the whole of the province.

This desire to reach out voiced itself from the very start, beginning with the choice of our name “Parminou” which suggests a close relationship with our audiences and, moreover, citizen participation in our creative efforts and our involvement in the social struggle.

Our theatrical art rests to a large extent on the relationships developed with the communities and organizations relating to the various themes approached in our presentations. This regularly brings us to venture outside of the traditional cultural networks and before a wide variety of audiences, certain of which have had little contact with the theater: a double experience for these spectators who face the full force of expression and spokesmanship that this art represents.

In 1988, we inaugurated our production and creation center, one of the first of this kind of facility by the ministère des Affaires culturelles of that time. This regional pied-a-terre allows us to develop a privileged relationship in our region namely the Centre-du-Quebec. On the strength of growing regional support Théâtre Parminou continues its quest to become a national touring company. Our activities reach all of Quebec and extend to the other Canadian provinces as well as various locations around the world.

Our history is marked by impressive statistics: hundreds of productions and a network of thousands of partners to reach millions of spectators of all ages.

Theatre Parminou contributes, to the emergence of possible changes for the betterment of the individual and the community, through its theatricality.
